| Paradise Lake via Pacific Crest Trail |
| Take the Pacific Crest Trail north of I-80 near Donner Pass. The first three miles of the trek go up the valley approaching Castle Pass. If you have extra time there are great views with a short climb up Castle Peak (one of the tallest peaks in the area). After going over Castle Pass you descend into Round Valley until you reach a backcountry hut controlled by the Sierra Club called Peter Grubb Hut. Go up Basin Peak and descend into Paradise Valley. A short hike up Paradise Valley brings you to Paradise Lake which offers beautiful scenery. Watch out, Paradise Valley is often infested with mosquitoes, but don’t worry, once you get to the granite of Paradise Lake the mosquitoes disappear. |
